Family and consumer sciences education and studies students celebrate milestone in Betty Lamp Ceremony: On Dec. 13, family and consumer education and studies students gathered to celebrate reaching a big milestone in their program by lighting betty lamps — a symbol of learning. In a tradition dating back to 1926, the Iowa State University ceremony highlights students who have completed their content coursework and are transitioning to student teaching or internships.
