Responsibilities

During my internship my core responsibilities varied between each event we put on. These responsibilities included meeting with prospective clients along with the head event planner to go in to detail about what they are looking for in their event, assisting the event planner with all set up and tear down, and helping plan and execute each event. During the event, I would work on a variety of tasks whether that be back in the kitchen prepping and putting food out, behind the bar serving drinks, and around the event itself making sure trash is picked up and guests are happy.

Accomplishments

I think my greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was gaining the confidence I needed to one day work as an event planner and put together my own events. Prior to my internship, I felt like I was lacking the experience I needed to graduate and start applying for jobs. Now, I feel 100% ready and am excited to see what opportunities are ahead of me.

Learning experience

Some of the greatest lessons I learned actually came from making mistakes or asking questions during my internship. I say this because when I did make a mistake I was able to learn why the task was more efficient or better done another way. As an intern, you can't expect to be good at everything right at the start. It takes time, patience, and learning to figure out how things work.

What advice would you give?

My biggest piece of advise to future students in my major is to keep asking questions. During the course of my internship I learned so many new things by simply asking the right questions when I was not sure of the answer. Whether it be in a classroom or a work environment, don't be shy to ask questions because odds are someone else probably has the same one. I think this is especially important in a work environment because many times each environment is going to be different than the last.
