Responsibilities

MY responsibilities included spotting lifts, correcting form/technique, run classes, set up for workouts, attend some coaches meetings, and ask questions when I don't clearly understand something.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was leading my first speed and agility group session by myself. It took me a little while to grow my confidence to the level that I could lead a session by myself, as well as gain the trust of the head coaches to let me run the class for them.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned was to form personal connections with the clients. This will allow them to get to know you, not just as a coach, but personally too. What I found is that this leads to the clients trusting the coach more.

What advice would you give?

The best advice I have is to follow a close pattern to whoever is in charge when you first get to a company, then slowly expand into your own unique coach after you get settled. For me specifically, I basically copied the head coach throughout the sessions, stayed out of the way, and through time I branched out, and was able to learn how I could best fit into that environment.
