Carl Weems, professor and chair of human development and family studies at Iowa State University, and colleagues are translating the neuroscience of adverse childhood experiences to improve mitigating interventions, inform policy, and foster human resilience.

The researchers recently published an integrative model of Traumatic and Adverse Childhood Experiences (TRACEs+) with a revised adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) pyramid which emphasizes that a diversity of outcomes may result from encountering adversity. The article, “Translating the neuroscience of adverse childhood experiences to inform policy and foster population-level resilience,” ran in the most recent issue of American Psychologist, the flagship publication of the American Psychological Association; the issue focuses on translating research-based knowledge of adverse experiences of children into action that improves people’s lives.
