Adding text descriptions into Quizzes

February 7, 2019
Canvas

Building a quiz in Canvas involves two distinct phases which can be done in either order. One phase involves defining the quiz delivery and feedback setting. The second phase involves selecting questions and defining how they will be used. Instructors can ensure that specific questions are seen at specific points in the quiz, that questions are pulled randomly from groups that may or may not have extra questions, or some combination of specific questions and groups. A commonly overlooked feature is that Canvas allows the instructor to add a question that has a purely ‘Text’ format, i.e. one with no response options. The instructor can use the Text question to add instructions at key points in quiz. For example, a Text question can describe a scenario that the following questions refer to. A second text question can introduce a new scenario for the next block of questions. See the More link for instructions.
