Amanda Baker, Ann Gansemer-Topf, Noreen Naseem Rodriguez, Katy Swalwell awarded Miller Grants: Eight faculty teams will share $75,000 in grants next year to develop innovative approaches to undergraduate student learning, Inside Iowa State reported March 29. School of Education faculty members Amanda Baker, Ann Gansemer-Topf, Noreen Naseem Rodriguez, and Katy Swalwell are members of project teams awarded Miller Grants. Baker’s project, which received $15,000, involves promoting student engagement and productive group dynamics in team-based learning calculus courses. Gansemer-Topf is a collaborator on a project called, ‘Can automated writing evaluation enhance undergraduate writing? A cross-disciplinary, multicourse pilot of Grammarly’ that received $13,000. She’s also working on ‘Sketchnoting as a pedagogical tool in ecology,’ a project that received $14,148. Rodriguez and Swalwell received $10,751 for ‘Real talk: Engaging pre-service elementary social studies teachers in critical inquiry and conversations about race and immigration.’
