AMD senior Belange Mutunda wins $2,500 Civic/Social Entrepreneurship Award at Standing Innovation Pitch Off

Belange Mutunda, a senior in apparel, merchandising, and design, won the Civic/Social Entrepreneurship Award at the the Great Iowa State Innovative Pitch Off held at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month. Mutunda started Belange Handmade, an apparel company that recycles old curtains into products ranging from bags to dresses. She uses the profits to make reusable sanitary pads and distribute them free of charge to girls in need.
Other College of Human Sciences students and young alumni who made it all the way to the finals of the contest included Maggie Davis, Dixie Lauesen, Mariah Pettus, Kendra Petersen, and Daryle Sivels. See other results.
