Canvas file storage
November 15, 2018There are three different file storage areas in Canvas, each with its own ISU-set quota: personal (750M), course (5G), and group (500M). These storage areas are intended solely for Canvas-related work and should not be used as a substitute for CyBox or for storing sensitive info (e.g. social security numbers). Users are strongly encouraged to store video on a streaming video service (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Screencast or ARC) and not in Canvas. Typically, instructors disable the Files link in the Course Menu so that students do not have direct access to it and instead point to stored documents from Modules or by adding links within assignment instructions, questions, discussion posts, and announcements. If students are able to see the Files link, the instructor can selectively publish files and folders and can set restricted access rules on the file or folder, which can be date and time based.
