Common Assignment Error
October 18, 2018There are many types of assignments in Canvas. Graded discussions and quizzes are considered to be assignments because they generate a grade book column and are thus listed on the master ‘Assignments’ page even though they are created through their own specific tool pages. Activities created on the Assignments page fall into four types: no submission, online, on paper, and external tool submissions. These options and many more settings are only available at first glance if the instructor clicks the red +Assignment button. If the instructor instead clicks the plus sign (+) on an assignment group frame, a mini form appears that asks for the new activity name, dates, and point value. This mini form creates a no submission activity. Students cannot submit anything. To get the full list of options which allows you to specify how student work is to be submitted, click the More Options button on the mini form.
