Critical new setting for Groups

January 31, 2019

Registrar sections are created based on such things as whether the participant is majoring or not in a program, the lab day that the student enrolls in to go along with a lecture, as well as separate instructors and class times. It is normal for an instructor to enroll many Registrar sections (class lists) into the same Canvas course. When student work groups are created, students cannot see or interact well with their group members who are in different enrollment sections. To correct this, IT staff modified the ISU Admin Tools > Additional Course Settings tool. At the bottom of that tool, there is now a switch the instructor can flip to allow students to collaborate across sections. This is a critical change to make in most courses that set up student work groups.
