Canvas course groups can be set up so enrollment is random, by the instructor, or by student self-enrollment. A student can be enrolled in more than one group in a course. All the groups for a specific use are held in ‘Group Set’ (set) container. To create a set, click People > +Group Set, name the set and complete the form to indicate how enrollment should occur. To manually add groups to the set, click the +Group button. If a student is enrolled in a group, a ‘Groups’ link appears in the red Canvas side menu (not the course menu) — instructors won’t see this link! The side link lists the student’s groups for all courses so include your course name in each group name, e.g. ‘Red Team (HDFS 110)’. Once created, you can specify an assignment is to be turned in by each group in a set or assign a discussion to any select groups.
