How to restrict student access to past courses

By default, ISU allows students to enter, view, and even participate in Canvas courses from previous semesters. This is a new management policy put in place with our switch to Canvas and which instructors may not be aware since historically students had been blocked from accessing past courses. To prevent students from viewing and/or participating in old Canvas courses, go into each course and click Settings, click the Course Details tab, check the box in front of ‘Restrict students from viewing this course after end date’, then scroll down and click the red ‘Update Course Details’ button. You can verify your course availability period by clicking ISU Admin Tools > Additional Course Settings.
