Jessica Havel, a senior in culinary food science, won the Best of Show award for a new business start-up with her project ‘Coffee Break’ at the 2018 College of Human Sciences Entrepreneurship Showcase held Thursday, April 26. Meanwhile, the student team consisting of Heather Stueven, Jessica Cipolla, and Abby Dieter took Best of Show in business consulting for their work with Julie’s Designs, a beauty salon in Jewell. They were among 32 students who took home cash prizes at this year’s CHS Entrepreneurship Showcase, which allows students in the AESHM 474: Entrepreneurship in Human Sciences class to gain experience pitching their major project (either a new business plan or a small business consulting project) to teams of external judges. Consulting projects were conducted this spring in Jewell in partnership with ISU Extension and Outreach. Five teams, comprised of 18 students, worked with five small retail businesses in the Jewell on the consulting project.
