Craig Van Pay, graduate student in human development and family studies and the School of Education, was selected to receive a $25,000 Head Start graduate research grant from the Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation. This project will investigate differences in preschool language environments between English monolingual children and dual language learners in local Head Start programs. It will also analyze how these children’s language experiences in preschool classrooms relate to their cognitive, pre-literacy, and language development.

Van Pay is advised on this project by Ji Young Choi, assistant professor in human development and family studies. Constance Beecher in the School of Education and Kere Hughes-Belding in human development and family studies will provide further mentorship on the project.
