Restricting student access to past Canvas courses

At this time, Iowa State University is not restricting student access to past courses as a matter of default. Therefore, to prevent students from entering their past Canvas courses (since Fall 2017), the Instructor must go into the Canvas course > Settings > Course Details tab > check mark the box in front of ‘Restrict students from viewing course after end date’ > then click the Save button on the bottom of the screen. It is not necessary to enter an ‘Ends’ date in the settings since each class account is associated with a specific Term and each Term has an internal start and end date set by Iowa State IT staff. If an instructor does not make this setting change, all past students can continue to enter the old course, which means those students continue to have access to all course content, communications, assignment and test feedback that had been provided (including test answer keys).
