Shannon Coleman receives award from USDA; reaches undergraduates throughout U.S.

Shannon Coleman, assistant professor in food science and human nutrition, received a $500,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture as part of her five-year Research and Extension Experiential Learning for Undergraduate (REEU) grant program. This funding will be used to continue the Cyclone Scholar Summer Research Experience (CSSRE). This summer research experience has engaged 29 scholars from around the U.S. on ISU campus thus far. The CSSRE is an eight-week program, during which seven scholars will perform interdisciplinary research and extension projects addressing successes and barriers in the local food systems related to the areas of food science, human nutrition, and health, while also developing professional development skills. The next cohort of scholars is scheduled for Summer 2021.
