Responsibilities

Within the restaurant industry, you will learn that most of your tasks are day-to-day. What this entails, specifically to my internship, would be restocking, making sure the restaurant is set up before the shift, calculating sales at the end of the night, and working with employees to make sure everyone can close correctly and happily,

Accomplishments

I think my greatest accomplishment during my internship experience is the relationships I have formed. Creating professional relationships with the managers has been very helpful, I have been able to watch the way they manage and compare that to what I have been learning the past four years. Connecting with guests has been a great part of the job as well, it made me remember why I chose this industry.

Learning experience

Some of the greatest lessons I have learned from my experience has been surprisingly more culinary. I am working in a fine dining establishment so I have learned so much about locally produced meats, wines, table settings, and a new point of information system.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future students in my major is to continue to work with passion. This industry is really hard but finding small things like a good conversation, education within your industry, and finding joys within your daily work will make the work fun and meaningful. This is a very special industry and not everyone can do it, so make sure you love doing it.
