Responsibilities

As a Food & Beverage Intern with Hyatt I held a Supervisory position in the 3 meal dining restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. I worked majority of my time during the dinner shift. I would host the pre-shift meetings and then be helping serves or guests during the meal period. Majority of my time in the restaurant I spent it in the expo line, making sure all food tickets were going through the kitchen and the food was sent to the right tables and guests. I would close the restaurant and check out the colleagues when they completed their sidework. As closing manager in the restaurant, I would do our alcohol inventory then complete all requisitions and send our recaps to the managers in the hotel.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was being able to show my passion for the hospitality industry and my strong work ethic. My managers could trust me to run shifts by myself and complete the projects I was given. I would stay hours after closing the restaurant finishing all my tasks and projects I was given to make sure the work I was responsible was completed. Therefore, this also gave me opportunities to learn and grow.

What advice would you give?

Do not be afraid to ask questions! Starting your internship things are going to be new and confusing so be sure you speak out. I know starting out I was so afraid to show how confused I was with everything was learning in the hotel, but then I realized that was doing more harm. I got more comfortable asking my managers when I did not understand their instructions or even just asking random questions on how things work in the property. Believe me this will set you up for success!
