Responsibilities

I am a sexual assault survivor advocate. This job includes crisis intervention, individual and family client counseling, legal aid assistance, court advocacy, community outreach meetings/presentations, and overall just being there for clients as they navigate their own journey as a survivor.

Accomplishments

I am proud of the rapport I was able to build with clients and watching how each individual handles their unique situation differently gave me a excellent idea of what it will be like working with clients in the future. I am also really proud of the individual project I completed which was a resource packet for clients who also manage substance abuse issues as this is a specific passion of mine.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students is to not be so nervous! I was very nervous even thinking about applying for internships but after the career fair and reaching out to several prospective places, it was so much easier than I thought. In your internships, don't be afraid to volunteer for side projects or tasks, those ended up being my favorite days!
