Responsibilities
During my internship I worked as a part time sales associate in the juniors department, where I helped customers in the fitting rooms, performed customer transactions and returns, and addressed customer complaints. On top of my daily sales associate duties I also went through department manager training sessions where the other interns and I learned about the qualifications and responsibilities of a manager. Between these sessions I job shadowed every level of store operations from floor managers, to customer service to visual merchandising, while simultaneously completing projects such as secret shopping competitors, analyzing department sales and performance and observing other departments throughout the store.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was designing and staging a visual display on my own. I had the creative freedom to style the mannequins, pick out props and decorate the table with whatever merchandise I felt matched the overall aesthetic of my concept. It was really exciting to have customers walk by my display and compliment the outfits, or try on and purchase the pieces I had picked out.
What advice would you give?
Be open to any internship or job experience that is offered to you, even if that company or location may not be your first choice, the more experience you have in your field the more likely you are to get that job of your dreams.
