Responsibilities

Assisted with elementary speed and change-of-direction camp sessions. Worked with high school athletes during strength and lifting sessions. Led and demonstrated warm-ups, speed drills, and exercise progressions. Provided specific coaching cues, technique corrections, and positive feedback. Monitored movement quality and organize equipment for safety.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship at The Yard was developing the confidence and communication skills needed to become an active coach rather than just an observer. I am especially proud of becoming more confident giving specific coaching cues and feedback.

Learning experience

One of the biggest parts of this growth was learning how to work with different age groups. I primarily worked with elementary-aged athletes during speed camp and high school athletes during lifting sessions. I learned that I could not coach every athlete the same way.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future interns would be to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and take initiative. I would also encourage future interns to build relationships with the athletes and pay close attention to other coaches and there processes.
