Responsibilities

Helping set-up for events held at the arboretum, planning the annual Run for the Trees 5K, obtaining sponsors for the event, reaching out to volunteers for the race, creating advertisement for social media and various websites and designing and ordering t-shirts.

Accomplishments

I think the greatest accomplishment from this experience would be seeing everything come together for the 5K. There are a lot of different things that go into planning a race. Leading up to the event, there are a lot of moving pieces, so it will feel amazing when it all comes together.

Learning experience

I think the greatest lesson I have learned is how important communication is. Communication is so important leading up to an event, because you want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Having good communication can help events go smoothly before, during, and after.

What advice would you give?

Don't get overwhelmed when you first start out. In the beginning, it can seem like a lot and very overwhelming. It can be scary starting something new, but know that everything will fall into place in the end!
