Responsibilities

I assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing lessons and activities, provide one-on-one or small-group support for students who need extra help, and monitor student behavior while enforcing classroom rules in a positive, supportive manner. I also support the overall learning environment by helping maintain an organized classroom, preparing materials, and offering assistance wherever it is needed.

Accomplishments

The greatest accomplishment has been the journey of building trust and connection with students—creating a space where they feel safe, understood, and confident enough to share their thoughts and feelings. Witnessing their growth, knowing they can confide in me, and seeing them flourish has been truly rewarding.

Learning experience

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that every child responds differently to guidance and discipline. What works for one student may not work for another, so it’s important to be flexible, patient, and intentional in supporting each child’s growth.

What advice would you give?

- Gain real-world experience early—volunteer, intern, or work with children and families. - Try to get a part-time job related to HDFS as an upperclassman to build your resume. - Every student and family is unique; be flexible, patient, and a good listener. - Network with professors and professionals; mentorship opens doors. - Take care of yourself—helping others can be emotionally demanding.
