I was responsible for a wide variety of tasks associated with planning and the implementation of multiple weddings throughout the internship time frame. The internship position required high communication skills with clients (the wedding couple) and vendors. Planning and time management were put to the test every event. Each wedding followed a strict timeline which the intern staff were responsible for keeping on task. We had to make sure caterers, entertainers, photographers and venue management were all working together to ensure a smooth and successful wedding day. Other responsibilities included working with the the the couple during the planning of the wedding and how they wanted to execute the wedding day.
I feel like I accomplished a lot while working for a wedding planner. I improved my time management skills, my communication skills and my decorative skills. Growing up extremely shy was always difficult but I after putting myself in situations where I had to communicate, like working for a wedding planner, has made me more comfortable talking to people.
What advice would you give?
If you are even a little bit interested in weddings try it out. You never know what can come from it. If it ends up not being something you are interested in later in life now you know and you have gotten some experience out of it.
