Responsibilities

The Symposium Planning Intern works one-on-one with the Director of Planning on the preparation and logistics leading up to the Laureate Announcement Ceremony, which takes place each year in Washington, D.C.; research issues related to food insecurity in preparation for the Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium in the Fall; other duties related to arrangements for the annual Borlaug Dialogue.

Accomplishments

On a daily basis, the work I do contributes to a larger event. It's been so rewarding to see how writing letters and fine detail work make a difference on the day of the event. We recently announced the 2018 Laureates, and in October, we will present them the award along with an international symposium. I love knowing my daily efforts not only make a difference for these events but what they stand for. This year's symposium theme is Rise to the Challenge. I look forward to seeing how my work will encourage the dialogue between global leaders fighting food insecurity.

What advice would you give?

I would accept work and tasks that may seem intimidating because they are outside of your skillset. It is an opportunity to learn more and expand your experience. You may also find an interest that you wouldn't have entertained if it weren't for an extra challenge.
