Responsibilities
I had a wide variety of responsibilities during my internship. I want to teach yoga-style classes, so my most important responsibility was to observe classes/instructors. I am waiting on the certifications to start before taking classes, so I was only able to lead warm-ups and cool-downs during classes. I also managed the front desk and helped clients with any questions they had. I also ran our two wellness suites. We have a dry salt therapy studio, and I ran and cleaned that. We also had a thermal suite open while I was here, and I now run and clean that as well. I organized all of the equipment in the studio and kept up on daily cleaning tasks around the studio. I gave tours of the studio to people who were interested, created content for social media posts, assisted in event planning, created studio challenges for clients, helped check clients in, and helped instructors with closing tasks after their classes. I attended quite a few meetings and events for the studio as well.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was probably being offered a paid position. It was very encouraging to be offered a job here without being certified yet. I am very grateful to have found an amazing internship that I get to continue even after this. I've made so many great connections with clients and instructors, and am so glad that | will be staying around. It also makes me even more excited to get certified and step into a leadership role here as well.
Learning experience
I think the greatest lessons I learned from my experience were that community is everything. I fell in love with the studio when I had my interview, but I had no idea how much the people within the studio would mean to me. I have met so many people, and everybody in the studio is always so positive. I am always thanked by not only my boss, but clients as well, for the hard work I put into the studio. The people you surround yourself with can make or break any experience, and I could not have been happier to be surrounded by the people here at the studio. I think that hard work, no matter how small, can make a big impact on the studio and the clients. Clients appreciate walking into a studio full of people who welcome them with open arms, and that's exactly how they welcomed me.
What advice would you give?
Learn how to communicate with everyone effectively. This is one of the most "people jobs" out there. It is so important to be able to talk to people of any age or any experience. Your ability to lead, educate, and build rapport will matter more than how certified you are.
