Responsibilities

My responsibilities at Modern Dress include assisting the stylists with their brides first appointments in finding a dress, as well as assisting clients with their second appointments in deciding between their favorite dresses. Potentially in the same appointment move to assist those clients with possible jewelry options or other accessories for their big day. Other responsibilities lie with helping change the store layout, setting up merchandise displays, putting out new merchandise, and of course making sure the store remains clean and presentable.

Accomplishments

I would have to say that one of my biggest accomplishments at my internship was being able to learn first hand about a branch of the fashion industry that I had previously never given much thought to, wedding dresses. I had the opportunity to shadow several great bridal stylists at Modern Dress and was able to pick up on a lot of tips and tricks when it comes to styling for such a special day. All the learning I did finally led me to have my own styling opportunities which I would consider my biggest accomplishments at Modern Dress. Soon in a few days I will be working on my final project with Modern Dress and I intend to make it another great accomplishment I have had at this internship.

Learning experience

One of the biggest lessons I've learned this semester while at my internship is how important effective communication is. Taking the time to learn skills surrounding emotional intelligence and communication will really make a significant difference in the way you handle conflicts, miscommunications or even constructive criticism, among so many other things. These new set of skills will change the effectiveness in communication within every one of your relationships throughout your life, whether it may be personal or professional.

What advice would you give?

The best pieces of advice I could pass on is to be brave enough to make mistakes. Be brave enough to put yourself out there and expose yourself to new opportunities, whether you believe you're capable or not. Be brave enough to try, and brave enough to possibly fail. Making mistakes, or things not turning out in the best possible outcome is okay, learn from every experience and remember that the only way to truly fail at something is by giving up and walking away, not by getting up and trying again.
