Some days I am in the office doing odds and ends for the director and assistant director. That might include running errands, sweeping, mopping, cleaning the bathrooms, cutting paper, laminating, and other variety of things. Other days I will be floater which means I can help in room where they might need me. Some days I am scheduled in a certain classroom and other days I am just put in room to help out for a couple of hours.
I think the most memorable experience was when I got attend a Iowa Cubs game with that older group of children. I got to work and my boss told me so you get to attend a baseball game today. I love baseball so I was super excited to attend it with a bunch of children.
What advice would you give?
I would tell them to expect to feel uncomfortable. This experience I have been in situations where I felt so much out of my comfort zone that I almost had to make it feel comfortable for me to continue on. I would also say learn to be flexible there are days where I am expecting to work in the office all day then I am thrown into a room. It can be overwhelming but I know I am least helping out the center by being there for them.
