Responsibilities

I helped create a prevention campaign that will be used in a partnership with other organizations across Iowa to promote the primary prevention of sexual violence. I got to attend various trainings, seminars, and meetings to learn about organizational efforts to prevent sexual violence. I also got to analyze research and data about the best practices for prevention.

Accomplishments

I got to create an educational social media campaign that could help promote Iowans' wellbeing and safety! It feels good to have a tangible product that will be used to help people!

Learning experience

I learned how to listen to other people's stories and try to understand experiences that I can't empathize with. I also learned how to be proactive in keeping up with policies and news that will affect how people live; since public health is affected hugely by policy, which can change pretty frequently.

What advice would you give?

Be flexible! Things will change a lot as you get to work in the real world, whether it's research, policy, or how to do things. The only thing that's constant is that everything can change!
