Responsibilities

Through this internship, I have been responsible for helping with the planning and execution of events. I work directly with the Event Coordinator who manages over 50 events each season. Events include corporate events, family reunions, golf tournaments, etc. I not only have the opportunity to learn the ABCs of event planning and execution, but will also be able to network and create working relationships with business professionals. I work with the group contact to plan room rentals, room set-ups, menus, and overnight lodging, as well as, execute the day of event by being the on-site coordinator and facilitate after event follow-up.

Accomplishments

One of the most rewarding things I have gotten to do from this internship was to see an event from start to finish. An inquiry came in for an event, and my supervisor let me take it as my own. I gave a tour of the venue and the amenities and went over all the details with the group. The group loved the tour and decided to book. I was responsible for booking the rooms on our database and logging every detail. I was in close contact with the company who booked leading up to the event to make sure every detail was planned. When the day approached, I was in charge of set up and tear down as well as serving as a day of contact for anything needed at the event. After the event, I was able to do a follow up meeting and send out bills to finish up the event.

What advice would you give?

I would say that it is very important to keep an open mind during an internship. It might not be exactly what you want to do as a career, but that is okay! Just make the most of the time you have at the internship and learn as much as you can. Never be afraid to ask for help, or ask why you are doing things, because your employer is more than happy to explain. You are there to learn!
