Responsibilities

My responsibilities included management of all athletic events for Cys Locker Room. Since I am an event management major I really got to taylor the job to my needs for my internship. I was responsible for employees as well as set up and tear down of all sporting events such as football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc. I was responsible for inventory as well as money.

Memorable experience

The most memorable experience I have had so far is just all the game days for football. They are long 17 hour days of setting up, tearing down, dealing with problems as they arrive, etc. But the staff we have and the things I have been able to learn from these days is irreplaceable. The long days will be the ones I remember the most because we have fun while working and also get to learn from mistakes.

What advice would you give?

My advice to event management students is to just really network while you can. I got this position from networking at my previous internship and it works out great because it is in Ames and I can still attend classes while having a full time work schedule. If it wasn't for networking and asking questions at my last internship I would not be where I am today.
