Responsibilities

I had many responsibilities throughout my internship: problem solving, time management, finding fast solutions that can be a temporary fix while we work on a permanent solution, directing the flow of foot trafficking during significant events, protecting ceremonies from the public, completely flipping rooms to accommodate for events, organizing extra tables and chairs in what little storage rooms we could use during significant events, changing out chairs from one building and taking all the chairs from other building, waiting till the last minute to see if a client changes mind about location of event due to weather, coordinating tasks with other staff, being proactive and taping areas of where booths are going to be for events and mapping things out, being able to make judgment calls about what to do first and how much time to dedicate to things, making connections and networking with companies that come in and do events.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment has been the extensive networking I have experienced through working at Reiman Gardens, along with the relationships I have built with my coworkers and superiors.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I have learned is that one event can be done ten million different ways and seeing that firsthand has been amazing. Not only weddings but also graduations, baby showers, board meetings, etc. This doesn't just apply to decorations; different groups can make very different uses of a single space and really make it their own.

What advice would you give?

Be open-minded. Be willing to do the tasks that your peers don't want to do; it will help you stand out. Also, at the end of the day, remember your clients are people too. I think some people tend to just look at clients as a job and forget that they are people outside of their event who have everyday lives as well.
