Responsibilities

Promotions Internship Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Coordinate the scheduling of pre-game events and in-between inning activities - Assist with special promotions, theme nights, player-fan interactive events - Prepare props for game execution - Provide exceptional customer service - Assist with the daily insert and PA script production - Occasionally represent the Explorers at community events as Slider, the Explorers mascot - Update the Explorers social media pages - Assist with all events during each game - Assist with non-baseball events throughout the season - Other duties as assigned by the Assistant General Manager & General Manager This is what I was supposed to be doing this summer) Instead, I did a lot of work helping to create their new website that is launching in November. I also helped create new promotions for the 2021 season. With that, I did some manual labor helping throughout the summer with keeping the field maintained.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment from this internship so far is creating new promotional ideas for in-game entertainment. Between myself and two other interns, we created the 2021 promotional schedule. This includes three big Saturday night events and ten small Saturday night events. My boss, Matt Adamski, is trying to have a packed house one night a week or one night a month for the big event instead of pushing Sunday - Thursday night games.

Learning experience

My greatest lesson learned throughout my internship is that even though life doesn't go as planned, it can still end up being a great learning experience. I never in a million years would have thought my internship this summer would have ended up like this where everything is online, and I would only make it to the field 3 times all summer. COVID has brought me a completely different internship, but one that I'll forever remember. This summer has allowed me to work closely with the president and owner of the Sioux City Explorers, which in return, I've gained great connections within the city.

What advice would you give?

Advice for future students is to make the best out of every situation you are in. With the pandemic taking over the world, everything in the event industry is different now and forever will be. The best thing to do is to learn everything you can from your internships and use it to make yourself more valuable to future employers.
