Responsibilities
Worked with the organization to support Iowa State student's social, emotional, and spiritual well being through connections and community engagement. I was able to connect with new and current students in organizing campus events as well as continue to foster the supportive environment. I worked on outreach, plan meetings, and assisted in communication with Iowa State students.
Accomplishments
My biggest accomplishment during my internship was to help my board give student feedback as they passed their grant to renovate their student lounge, accessible to all Iowa State students. Seeing my feedback being used and hearing how much the board members valued my voice and opinion was extremely rewarding. Also knowing how beneficial my input will be to future students is very important and makes me feel like I have accomplished something that will have effects for years.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson(s) that I learned during my experience was how important it is to collaborate with all individuals within the organization. Realizing that there are many strengths within the office and lots of resource reminds you how lucky you are to have these resources at arms-reach. This can benefit not only your work, but the work you are doing for the organization and have lasting impacts.
What advice would you give?
As far as advice I would have for future students in your major, I think I would tell my younger self to reach out and attempt to build stronger connections with your professors. I think that I missed that part of college that I hear lots of people talk about. Sometimes I wish I had that mentor during my college experience, and I wish I worked harder in building some of those connections.
