Responsibilities

Direct service opportunities which include: Providing advocacy and support through answering our Domestic Assault, Sexual Assault and Housing services crisis lines Providing advocacy and support through ACCESS’s Resource/Chat line Providing assistance and pathways for victims with housing and financial resources Support a victim through and criminal court advocacy In-direct service opportunities which include: Enhancing our community with education and awareness. Promoting, planning and presenting awareness activities like Facebook live features, Watch parties and social media posts. Promoting, planning and presenting educational opportunities to campus and community

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was finishing my internship at the end of the semester and feeling like I had made a positive impact in many people's lives.

Learning experience

I learned many great lessons, but my internship provided me with a ton of practice working with victims and using strategies such as active listening. I learned about active listening in class, but I was now able to actually put it to use and learned so much!

What advice would you give?

Get as much hand-on experience in the field as you can before graduating! There are a plethora of volunteer, internship, and career opportunities within this field in Ames.
