Responsibilities

During my time at the ISU Creamery this summer, I was responsible for managing the cash deposits, managing our online store as well as customer orders, and working on event management for upcoming workshops. For the cash deposits, I regularly verified the cash count in the retail store and corresponded with the department accountant to send in the cash deposit every week. The online store receives orders from within and outside the university that need to be packed, verified, and delivered in a timely manner. As the event management coordinator, I planned and organized a workshop for the fall semester.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was the major improvement in my problem-solving skills. Many problems arose over the course of the summer, and this presented me with the opportunity to remain level-headed and work through the problem logically, while trying to keep the rest of the process moving as smoothly as possible.

Learning experience

The greatest lessons that I learned from my experience were to remain patient when things get difficult, always think about how others may be feeling because they are probably struggling with their own problems too, and that, at the end of the day, doing my best was all that mattered in this type of work setting.

What advice would you give?

The best piece of advice that I have for future students in my major is to appreciate all of the fun moments that you get during your academic career and your internships. Taking the chance to learn and practice the skills you'll need in your career in the food industry is going to be pivotal later in life and will make your college experience so much better.
