Responsibilities

Enrichment program targeted to youth in the urban/metropolitan area in Des Moines, Iowa. Enrichment programs vary in school programing or after school programing. Lesson plans are individualize to each school and their needs. Many lesson plans are surrounded on learning how to make good choices, service projects- allowing students to be involved in their community, leadership opportunities, we also offer STEM program, and portable challenge.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment through this experience is pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Having the freedom to share my opinions to my supervisor that may help our mission statement more, and accomplishing projects with my opinion or creativity.

What advice would you give?

Take every opportunity your internship exposes you to- meetings, questions, network with other organizations in the community. Even if you plan on moving outside of the area you intern with. Many people in the field have connections somehow and can get you connected. Also, don't be scared to introduce yourself, talk about your passions, motivations, mission you want to serve in the field of human services. Having the confidence in your skills and sharing it can help with networking, and allowing the professional to give you insightful advice/experience.
