Responsibilities

During my internship with Mainstream Boutique, my responsibilities were taking care of customers by helping them find exactly what they were or weren't looking for. I also would ring up their purchases and give them excellent customer service. Other responsibilities were general cleaning tasks like taking out trash, vacuuming and wiping down the countertops. We received shipment every day and we would need to unpackage, hang, tag, and steam each item before it went on the floor. Lastly, I got the privilege to help with visual merchandising the store whenever it needed it. That could be when we sold through items quickly, change of season, or new shipment collections. At the end of my internship, I was asked to help with social media and so I was in charge of Mainstream's Facebook and Instagram. My responsibilities with that were to take pictures of flat lays, post to each social media three times a day, and respond to comments that had questions.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was getting more experience with visual merchandising. Visual merchandising my dream and I was able to get complete freedom to do what I wanted for the store. I took lots of pictures over the past months to see my progress of my work. It was so nice to be able to get that chance to prove myself.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson that I learned from my experience is that I will never settle for a job that doesn't work as a team. This job has shown me that teamwork goes a long way. The managers never made the employees do things that they didn't do themselves. For example; taking out the trash, vacuuming, processing shipment, etc. They always took their turn doing those tedious tasks which made me respect them even more.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students is to always be yourself because no one is you and that is your power. You won't get very far if you aren't showing your true self to people along with your ideas and knowledge.
