Responsibilities

Create daily lesson plans and teach them to students. Develop multiple unit plans for the students to participate in and create assessment tools to observe their improvements. Establish classroom management strategies. Collaborate with other teachers and superintendents at the school. Develop time management strategies. Show up early and stay unit cooperating teacher leaves for the day. Participate in professional development and staff meetings with other faculty at the school. Learn from and collaborate with cooperating teacher on a daily bases.

Accomplishments

Hearing students say they have become more active during after school hours because of the lesson activities you have taught them that have helped them improve their skills and learn new activities and games to participate in with friends and family. Knowing that students are finding more joy in being physically active and more open to trying different types of physical activity because of the lesson activities they have been participating that you created is a great accomplishment and makes me very happy to be a PE teacher.

What advice would you give?

Try to be yourself as much as possible. This is difficult to do or believe you can do at the start of both your student teaching placements. The quicker you can be more comfortable and feel at home at the schools you student teach at the easier it will be for you to form connections with the students and show them that you care about them on a personal level. Also ask a lot of questions and ask for advice from your cooperating teacher and other teachers in the building. I believe student teachers are very creative and come ready to teach with new ideas and may have different teaching styles then their cooperating teachers. The more you can collaborate with your cooperating teachers and be on the same page as them the more they are going to enjoy your creativeness and be able to give you advice on how to improve your teaching skill set and enjoy yourself while teaching.
