Responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities I have at my internship include booking and working with vendors, communicating with other teams around the zoo, assisting with setup and teardown of events, greeting and directing guests, making and posting signage for events, as well as assisting with tasks and activities happening during our events.

Accomplishments

One of my greatest accomplishments was our Character Day event. This was the first event that I was able to be a part of during each step in the planning process, and I had the responsibility of executing, along with others on the team. I was able to see all of our hard work from start to finish come together to create an exciting and memorable experience for hundreds of people and families.

Learning experience

One thing that I learned during that experience is that you should always be able to adapt, as most things don’t go exactly according to plan. I’ve really had to learn to roll with the punches and not let those things that will go wrong discourage you because it all tends to work out in the end.

What advice would you give?

Always be ready to be personable and people-centered. At the end of the day, the most important thing about events is the satisfaction, entertainment, and memorable experience for the guests or clients, so always be willing to put those people first and do everything you can to give them a good experience and maintain a positive relationship with them.
