Responsibilities

At June Ruby there were several different responsibilities, some of these included unpacking daily shipment, which was an extensive process for such a small company. Unpacking, including matching the product that was received with the product on the pic ticket that we had received. Typically, this was all in order and both of them were in line with one another. After this every garment had to be steamed and looked over to ensure that it was ready to be put on the floor. Once everything was perfect, it had to be ticketed. This meant that the company, the item, price and size was written on the tag. These items were connected with our POS system, once again to make sure that everything was consistent. Once the product was unpacked, steamed, and ticket, it was put onto the sales floor. This was one of the major parts of the job. In addition to this customer interaction was one of the top priorities. Making this connection was vitally important, since I did intern at such a small company, a majority of the costumers are either return customers or close friends and family members.

Accomplishments

One of my greatest accomplishments during my internship, was being able to work so closely with Michelle, who is one of the co-owners of June Ruby. While this was something that was continual and not a one time thing, it was what allowed me to learn as much as I did. Being able to work side by side with Michelle allowed me to work on everything from getting new merchandise and products, sending out specially created boxes of product for customers, connecting with our target market, social media, and so many other aspect. Without being able to work so closely with Michelle I would not have learned as much as I did in such a short time period.

What advice would you give?

There are two big pieces of advice that I would give to future students who are looking for internships. The first piece of advice would be, don't be afraid. Apply for internships that you don't know if you're going to get, or that you're qualified for. Just apply for it, you may even surprise yourself and get the job. In addition to that, don't limit yourself to the types of internships you apply to, apply to some that you may not even find interesting at first, apply to companies, and positions that will allow you to grow more than a position that you are comfortable with. My second piece of advice would be to give 110% of effort into everything that you do. The more you put into your internship, the more questions you ask, the more that you engage with what is happening, the more you will learn and the more that you will benefit from this experience.
