Responsibilities

Some of my responsibilities throughout my internship as a Special Events and Marketing Intern include: assisting in the planning and coordination of their annual Club Talent Show and Great Futures Golf Tournament, prepare various event materials, Helps generate and create content for website, social media, and e-newsletter, assist in the coordination and execution of all communication strategies regarding events and more.

Accomplishments

I would say that my biggest accomplishment throughout my internship would be how I was able to create different materials for these events that people will be able to take with them and help them remember it. I was able to create the certificates for all of the participants for the Boys & Girls Club of Central Iowa 2021 Youth of the Year competition. I loved being able to see the faces of the participants when they received their specially made certificates. I also love being able to intern with a company who does so many amazing things for so many people.

Learning experience

Some of the greatest lessons I have learned throughout my internship is how many ups and downs you can go through when planning an event. Due to COVID, my supervisor and I had to be extremely flexible and creative when we were working on and planning these different events. It seemed as if sometimes once we would really have an idea and plan we would both be excited about, something else would come up that would prevent it from happening. It taught me firsthand to really be ready for anything and be ready to just go with the flow sometimes because you never know what is going to happen.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future event management students would be to take all of the opportunities you are able to and find what you are passionate about! There are so many different events you are able to get involved in and I really recommend going out of your comfort zone and trying out event you haven't been involved in before.
