Responsibilities

As the buying intern, my responsibilities during my internship were to assist the buying and merchandising team with any projects or spreadsheets they needed to complete. I helped create buys to send out to other companies such as Woot and Zulily. Another one of my responsibilities was putting together sell thru reports for 30, 60, and 90 days to send out to the buying team where I would also give my input on whether or not we should buy a product again or not based on how well it sold or if it's trendy nowadays. I also had the responsibility to help research and put together our intern project that consisted of creating a subscription box for Proozy.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was helping the company launch their very first subscription box. Proozy has been wanting a subscription box option for their customers for a while now. They even tried to plan one out, but it didn't follow through. They made it our intern project for the summer to assist them in creating a Proozy subscription box. Along with the three other interns, I researched and planned out the hundreds of details that go into a subscription box. After putting together the analytics of the inventory, branding, accounting, etc., us interns presented the executive board with all the details and plan to execute the subscription box onto their site.

Learning experience

I learned a lot about the fashion industry and everything that happens behind clothing websites. I learned how to put together a buy for a company and what all of the terms and numbers mean. I also learned a lot of new excel tips that will be very useful for my whole life. Besides from the work aspect of things, I learned a lot about myself and to be confident in what I do. Another lesson I learned that will help me in life is to not be afraid to ask questions because it's better to ask and do it right the first time than to not ask any questions and be stuck.

What advice would you give?

The biggest piece of advice I'd give is to not give up through your interview process. Start looking at different companies and websites for the kind of internship you're looking for early on. Don't be discouraged when you get turned down by one because everything is meant to be and there are so many opportunities out there.
