Responsibilities

Created and led monthly healthy and engaging activities for the youth. Engaged deeply with youth looking for that one caring adult in a positive and supportive manner according to Alive’s mission and values. Participated in center-wide activities and special events as needed Conducted outreach to local organizations and partners as needed

Accomplishments

I would say my greatest accomplishment from my internship would be the incredible bonds that I formed with many of the children. At the start of my internship, I saw that a lot of kids had bad habits, or were very shy, and months later seeing these same kids start participating more, having fun, and bonding with their fellow kids made me very proud to be a part of something so unique and special.

Learning experience

My biggest takeaway from this internship is the reminder of how important it is to build relationships with people. What got the kids to participate in more activities was weeks long effort of establishing a positive relationship with them, to the point where they felt comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone. This is an important skill to have, especially in a clinical career, as a positive relationship will result in the client more likely adhering to their program/routine.

What advice would you give?

The biggest advice I can give is to just have fun. We all choose this field because it is something we are very passionate about, and it’s our job to give others that same passion. So no matter the day or what’s going on in life, always showing up with a positive attitude and spirit will make all the difference in other peoples lives.
