During my internship I have been responsible for planning and running summer gymnastics camps and clinics. The theme changes each week and there is a different craft everyday that I plan for the theme. I am responsible for making sure all of the employees are prepared for their campers. I made rotation schedules and lesson plans for each group leader. I am in charge of checking in campers and registration for both camps and clinics.
My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience has been creating a fun and safe environment for the kids to enjoy and grow from. After a few weeks of being supervised I have ran a week of camp independently! (my supervisor was here if I had any questions)
The greatest lessons I have learned from my experience have been team work, decision making, and communication. Nothing will get done without everyone helping and understanding the plan. Communicating with employees and being a manager has been a fun new experience that I feel like I have grown from. I have learned to make decisions in a timely manner and to be confident with your decisions.
What advice would you give?
Some advice I have for future majors is to take your time and its okay if you do not know what you want to do. These opportunities are great ways to figure it out. I would do one thing differently and that is do my internship sooner and do multiple.
