Responsibilities
My responsibilities during my internship included helping run the instagram account which involved taking pictures of clothing for posts on the feed, taking daily stories, and I also helped with some TikTok videos as well. Along with taking pictures of clothing, I had the opportunity to model the clothes to show my personal style and how the items looked on my body type for the customers. I had to barcode for the store and the warehouse as well as make listings for new products and put the new product on the floor. I also had to make displays throughout the store, which included two window displays and many different displays within the store itself.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was being able to showcase my skills and style through displays. With the creative freedom I was given, it was a lot of fun to be able to put together outfits to show throughout the store. I even had customers come in to the store because of the displays I made to look at the items and sometimes buy the entire outfit off the mannequin. It was a great feeling to have customers tell me that the reason they stopped in the store was because we had good window displays that caught their attention.
Learning experience
Communication is key. Miscommunication is very common, and expressing any concerns or asking any questions could avoid a miscommunication. Working for a small business I learned that even though it is a small, family owned business, there is a lot that goes into running a business and every single person is important and has a key role within the business.
What advice would you give?
Retail is a very fast paced environment/work field. Being flexible and ready to take on any task that is asked of you is important, even if it is something that you didn't think you were going to have to do. Any experience is good experience. There is always something new to learn, especially with all the new trends and fashion statements that come out.
