Responsibilities

During my internship, I have had a lot of responsibilities. I have had the opportunity to sit in and participate in client meetings, as well as hold some on my own. I make floor plans for the events, secured payments before, during, and after events. I am responsible for creating the staff schedule each month, especially making sure we have enough people during large events. During events, I work with the client to make sure things were going well. I also work as a bartender. After some events, I am responsible for finding the client and getting the bar tab and remaining event costs paid and closed out. During the week, I assist with venue tours and answer questions that potential clients have about the space and contracts.

Accomplishments

I am in the process of planning a few events in March for the winery. I am hoping that these events could occur monthly while we are open to get more people in the door that wouldn't normally come out. We have a lot of events and get a lot of foot traffic from those alone, but it would be awesome to have people come out just to have a glass and enjoy a night out. If these events go well, I think they will be my best accomplishment from the internship.

What advice would you give?

Take advantage of every opportunity you have. Every experience is valuable and can potentially help you in the future. Even if you don't necessarily like the area you are in during your internship, you can still learn a lot about events and hospitality that can easily be applied to any job. Always be friendly and happy while at work, especially with clients and guests. You never know who is watching and who they might talk to.
