I get to shadow the 5th-12th grade school counselor. I see the daily tasks of a school counselor, including social-emotional counseling, academic counseling, teaching guidance administrative roles she fills. I also get to see the special projects she does, such as setting up for their school career/resource fair and state testing.
My greatest accomplishment has been the overall experience it has brought me. I learn something new every day, and I know what I have observed will come in handy in graduate school and my future job in a school.
What advice would you give?
Ask questions, and then keep notes on them! I have learned so much through actively asking questions about different areas of the job. I do my best to write down the things I learn so I won't forget them and can eventually look back on them.
