Grace Brummond
Responsibilities
During my internship, I had two facets; working apart of the Wellness Works team as the Social Media Coordinator, while creating and launching the Spring Into Summer Campaign, as well as being a Walk with Ease Leader/Enhanced Exercise Leader. Working in Wellness Works, I created and managed the social media accounts, promoting healthy behaviors and physical activity, whilst working amongst others to launch the state-wide campaign called 'Spring Into Summer'. This campaign promoted and targeted adults into becoming more active throughout various county's, using the Walk with Ease Self-Directed Program. Working in Walk with Ease In-person programs, I lead two 6-week programs located at Forker Building at Iowa State University, and one 6-week program as the Enhanced Exercise Leader at the Nevada Fieldhouse Location.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship was being able to successfully launch a physical activity promotion campaign alongside the Wellness Works internal team, while being able to utilize my skillset and knowledge being an exercise leader in the Walk with Ease programs.
Learning experience
One of the biggest lessons I learned from this internship experience is to have more trust and confidence within myself. I would often doubt the skillset and leadership traits I had in relation to leading Walk with Ease programs, however, through the duration of this internship, I was able to see that I have a true passion for leading exercise and can excel at the required responsibilities.
What advice would you give?
One piece of advice I have for future students is to make as many connections professionally as possible, taking advantage of any opportunity you can! I had first heard of 'Wellness Works' in a previous class, which led me to seeking out the opportunity to further intern when the time came.
