Responsibilities

I explored additional applications for a newly developed modified starch through a variety of different experiments. Throughout the summer I was given the opportunity to attend industry events such as the Iowa Culinary Conference and IFT First in Chicago. I also communicated what I learned through a final presentation.

Accomplishments

In the final stage of my internship, I was able to develop a new flavor of granola bar using the modified starch. This process was much more extensive than I had planned, but I really enjoyed each step of the development process.

Learning experience

Communication and collaboration are critical in an innovative environment. During this experience, I was constantly communicating and asking questions to ensure clear understanding of experimental results or next steps in my project.

What advice would you give?

My advice would be to take the internship! I understand how intimidating it can be to move away from home and work in a professional setting, but it is the best way to prepare you for your future career.
